Award Background & History

The Essence of Humanity Award is an award program that has its origin in south-central Pennsylvania.  Those chiefly responsible for the organization and development of the Program are individuals who by virtue of their positions as leaders of major organizations in the central Pennsylvania region have been exposed to the work and involvement of many individuals and organizations over the years.  It is these experiences that have caused this group to observe countless, unrecognized individuals who are quietly and without fanfare overcoming personal obstacles, and still contributing to the communities in which they live.

It is through this vision to recognize these unsung heroes that this Award was developed in 2001, so that these individuals, who have given so much, could become an inspiration to so many others.  This is the heart and soul of the Essence of Humanity Award.
